How to Protect Your Electric Scooter in Dubai’s Summer Heat

Dubai’s summer heat can be hard on electric scooters. High temperatures can affect battery performance and aging, tire pressure, brakes, and electronic components. A few simple maintenance habits can help you keep your scooter in better condition and ride more safely.

1. Protect the battery from heat

The battery is one of the most important and expensive components of an electric scooter. Prolonged exposure to high temperatures can accelerate battery aging and affect performance.

  • Avoid leaving your scooter in direct sunlight for long periods.
  • Do not leave the scooter or battery in a hot car.
  • Store and charge the scooter in a cool, dry, shaded or indoor area where possible.
  • After a demanding ride, allow the battery to cool before charging, especially if it feels unusually hot.
  • Use the charger supplied or recommended by the scooter manufacturer.

2. Charge smart in Dubai’s heat

  • Avoid charging in direct sun or on a very hot balcony.
  • Follow the manufacturer’s charging instructions for your specific scooter.
  • Avoid repeatedly draining a lithium-ion battery completely unless the manufacturer specifically recommends it.
  • Keep the charging area dry and well ventilated.

3. Check tire pressure regularly

Hot temperatures can increase tire pressure, so overinflation can become a bigger concern during summer. Check your tire pressure regularly, ideally when the tires are cold, and follow the PSI recommended by the tire or scooter manufacturer.

Also inspect the tires for cuts, cracks, unusual wear, or embedded nails before riding.

4. Test your brakes

Before riding, make sure the brakes feel firm and respond normally. If a brake feels loose, braking performance has dropped, or you notice unusual noise or vibration, have it inspected before continuing to ride.

5. Keep your scooter clean

Dust and sand can build up quickly in the UAE. Wipe the scooter with a slightly damp cloth and keep water away from the charging port, display, and other electronic components. Avoid directing high-pressure water at the scooter.

6. Check the nuts, bolts, and folding joint

Regular riding and vibration can loosen hardware over time. At least once a month, inspect the handlebar, stem, folding latch or joint, and wheel axles. If anything feels loose or does not lock securely, have it checked before riding.

7. Know the warning signs

Stop riding and arrange an inspection if you notice:

  • The battery becoming unusually hot
  • Sudden power cuts
  • Unexpected error codes on the display
  • Strange mechanical or electrical noises
  • A burning or unusual smell
